Artist Statement

„If anyone wonders why the hunt, what the whole thing is about, what intention drives this pursuit to capture a hare or even another piece of game, nothing will be revealed here. Only in the image and in the repeated encounter does the recognition of the self gradually unfold. One kills, breaks open, cooks and devours it, another simply orders and swallows it, suspecting only faintly after long habit what it might be. But only the one who grasps the essence at its core recognizes—and if it is the hare—what it truly is. This path is not everyone’s taste. Therefore, it still seems meaningful to me—and yes, the shoemaker sticks to his last. I have created 1000—hares indeed—and each one knows what it means to be hunted. Now I wish every lady and gentleman a merry hunt and say: I know what I hunt for; whoever needs proof may ask.“ (Tina Oelker, 2024)

Künstlerstatement

„Falls sich jemand fragt, warum die Jagd, wozu das Ganze, welchen Sinn man hier verfolgt, mit welchen Absichten man voranschreitet, um einen Hasen zu erlegen oder gar ein anderes Stück Wild, dem wird hier nichts verraten. Nur im Bild und in der wiederholten Begegnung offenbart sich im Angesicht – nach und nach – meist sehr wahrscheinlich die Erkenntnis zum Selbst. Der eine tötet, bricht auf, gart und verleibt es sich ein, der andere bestellt einfach und schluckt es runter, ahnt jedoch eher nach langer Gewohnheit im Ansatz, was es sein könnte. Doch nur der, der das Wesen im Kern erfasst, erkennt – und wenn’s der Hase ist – was es wirklich ist. Diesen Weg zu gehen ist nicht jedermanns Geschmack. Daher erscheint es mir nach wie vor sinnvoll – und ja, der Schuster bleibt bei seinen Leisten. Habe ich 1000 geschaffen – Hasen wohlgemerkt – und jeder einzelne weiß, was es heißt, gejagt zu werden. Nun wünsche ich jeder Dame und jedem Herren hier ein fröhliches Halali und spreche an: Ich weiß, wovon ich jage, wer einen Schein braucht, der möge fragen.“ (Tina Oelker, 2024)
