Tina Oelker Releases 1,000 Hares
The long-term project “1000 Hasen” has now been fully released. Created between 2007 and 2014, the body of work comprises 1,000 original works
Hamburg, October 1, 2026. Tina Oelker is releasing her long-term project 1000 Hasen in its entirety: all 1,000 original works created between 2007 and 2014 are now publicly accessible online for the first time. Available works can be purchased directly.
The project was originally conceived as a joint exhibition of all 1,000 originals. Rather than continuing to wait for such a comprehensive presentation, Tina Oelker is now setting the hares free: all 1,000 works can be seen online in their entirety from now on.
The project was created over a period of seven years. The recurring motif of the free, wild hare and the continuous numbering form its formal foundation.
Within this framework, Tina Oelker developed a wide artistic range: from intensely coloured portraits and abstract paintings to reduced drawings, large-scale whole hares, and a number of humorous objects. Now they are all free.
The Hare is the leaping point.
Through the principle of repetition, Tina Oelker opens up a richly varied painterly and visual field in which each hare appears as an original in its own right. At the same time, each individual work is always to be viewed in relation to the project as a whole. Oelker’s engagement with the European hare touches on questions of wildness, freedom, vulnerability, and self-assertion, as well as mythology, hunting, gender, and the relationship between humans and animals.
In 2021, she published the artist’s book “Of Hares and Gods, No. 1” as a limited self-published edition. The book documents 20 years of her artistic work, from 2001 to 2021.
# 1000
The 1,000th hare was created on December 1, 2014, exactly seven years after the first. It was completed at Hafentor 7 in Hamburg’s harbor, the former home of Hasenmanufaktur Hamburg, the “Hare Manufacture Hamburg.” The work bears the words: “Fuck the Hare.” With this work, the intensive production phase came to an end.
Wild remains wild.
All 1,000 works can be viewed at 1000hasen.de. Available originals can be purchased directly there. The works currently offered range in price from €750 to €4,900. Works on paper are available from €750; selected oil paintings on canvas, measuring 60 × 40 × 4.5 cm, are priced between €4,500 and €4,900.
Personal viewings are possible by prior appointment at the artist’s studio in Hamburg:
