1000 Hares

1000 Hasen (Hares) has been Tina Oelker’s long-term project since 2007

“100 years before I was born, the “1000-Hare-Stone” was erected in honor of the hunter Prince Ferdinand zu Solms-Braunfels in 1873 at the spot where he shot the 1000th hare. The fact that Joseph Beuys planted 7000 oaks in 1982 and explained the paintings to the dead hare beforehand precedes my work. Barry Flanagan’s bronze hare in New York brought me back to it in 1994, “Hunting license made”, Tally Ho, the animal remains free.”

Duty is Concept

Tina Oelker committed herself to creating a thousand individual originals with the motif of the wild hare. Exactly seven years after Hare # 0001, she celebrated Hare # 1000 with the “Schützenfest-Reloaded” in December 2014.

Gamekeeping and Care

Since 2015, “1000 Hasen” has been carefully documented, restored, and selectively exhibited. Featuring 300 original drawings along with various objects, large-format works, video material, and texts, the project is kept alive through continuous care, targeted presentations, and active dialogue with the audience.

Feeding

Tina Oelker integrates unexpected events into her artistic concept as the markswoman behind “1000 Hares.” Art thefts and their media coverage add an additional narrative layer to the project. The artist also regards the imitation of her paintings and the copying of her idea as forms of interaction, which she incorporates into her work.

Hare Certificate

When purchasing an original, you will receive a certificate of authenticity with the number of the respective “Hare.” With your trophy, you become part of the sharpshooters for “1000 Hares.”
